What is the Maryland Ag Tag?

The Maryland Ag Tag is a specialty license plate for your car, truck, trailer or RV honoring agriculture's contribution to Maryland.  It provides a way to contribute to the Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation, Inc. (MAEF), which conducts the Ag in the Classroom program, teaching Maryland students and citizens about the role of the food and fiber system in their daily lives.

Do I have to wait until it is time to renew my registration?

No need to wait for your registration to renew.  You can even order online now!  You may turn in your valid license plate, prior to your normal renewal date, for credit toward the Ag Tag. Transactions are handled by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration online, by mail or in person at the many service centers across the state.

How much does it cost per year?

The Ag Tag costs $20 more than a standard issued Maryland license plate; a $10 processing fee and $10 donated to MAEF.

Is there an annual renewal fee for the Ag Tag?

Yes, 100% of the annual $10 renewal fee is donated to MAEF.

Can I personalize my Ag Tag?

Yes, with up to 7 characters.  You must check with your local MVA office to reserve a unique set of characters.  A few low numbered tags - both regular and farm truck - are available through MAEF for $100 each.  Call 410-939-9030 for more information.

Contact your local Motor Vehicle Administration office.  They can give you details about ordering a plate and the specific cost for your situation.

How do I order the Ag Tag?

• You can order your Ag Tag anytime—you need not wait until your vehicle registration is due.

• Eligible vehicles include passenger cars, multi-purpose vehicles, trucks up to 1 ton(26,000 GVW) and trailers .  Handicapped tags and personalized tags are available. Organization tags and motorcycles are not eligible.

• Simply complete and sign the application form. A separate application is needed for each set of plates.  Take completed application and $20 fee to a full-service MVA office—OR—mail application with check or money order to MVA, 6601 Ritchie Highway NE, Glen Burnie, MD 21062.  For personalized or handicapped plates, call 1-800-950-1MVA.

• If renewing registration at the same time, include your renewal notice and registration fee.

• Make check payable to MVA.  Checks must include imprinted name and address, driver’s license number and work or home phone number.

• Upon receipt of new plates, immediately return the license plates presently on your vehicle to any MVA office for cancellation.
